CWCS’s NEW Data Centre – What Are The Benefits?

CWCS Managed Hosting made the decision to expand their Nottingham Data Centre in 2023. The team kicked things into gear and CWCS invested in a new building to completely renovate from the ground up. 2024 soon came around and work began!
The team have done an incredible job ensuring existing clients and client equipment has been uninterrupted throughout the entirety of this journey.

This article is going to share the benefits of the new Data Centre and what you can expect as a CWCS customer.

Benefits

Up to 4-times the Current Capacity

Moving into a bigger space, we now have up to 4-times more capacity, allowing us to better support our customers with high-density racks, and the ability to scaling their requirements. This also provides opportunity for us to support more businesses on the hunt for affordable, sustainable Colocation Solutions.

Supporting New Technology Applications

With increased power density, due to the increased capacity, we will be able to offer greater power per rack to support GPU Servers. With the rise of AI technology being utilised in business, we are excited to be able to support companies in achieving improved efficiency, reduced costs, and increased revenue through investing in GPU Servers, as they are specifically designed for the high computational demands of AI workloads.

Tier 3 aligned Data Centre

What does it mean to be Tier 3? A Tier 3 aligned data centre follows the standard defined by the Uptime Institute, which establishes the level of reliability, redundancy, and maintenance capabilities of a Data Centre.

Increased Resilience (no single point of failure!)

With A+B power feeds available on all racks, this Data Centre promises increased resilience and our team are confident in expected no single point of failure.

Fibre Network Infrastructure

Transitioning from a Cat5/6 infrastructure, to future proof us and our customers, all racks will now be connected via fibre, Additionally, we offer Openreach on-net services, allowing seamless integration for those looking to connect an existing Openreach network to their rack or servers.

Boosting Energy Efficiency

The team are delighted that the Data Centre has been designed with free cooling and hot aisle containment, to have a Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) of 1.15. The PUE metric was developed by The Green Grid to measure the overall energy efficiency of data centres. According to Sunbird, “New data centres that are constructed with state-of-the-art technology and deploy modern equipment should target a PUE ratio of around 1.2 but no higher than 1.4.”

Renewable Energy Source

Extending the focus on energy efficiency, the new Data Centre is running off a renewable energy source, keeping us on track to be carbon neutral by 2030.

“As a Hosting Provider we are part of a power-hungry industry, and feel it is our responsibility to limit the impact on the environment as much as we can. We are committed to taking a pro-active approach be carbon neutral by 2030.” – Karl Mendez

The team have made intentional decisions with various aspects within the Data Centre that are the least impactful to the environment whilst boosting efficiency:
1. Implementing IG-451 fire suppression
2. Implementing cooling systems ran on a renewable energy source.

What’s next?

The last few months have been busy, and we expect the upcoming months to be no different! With our new data hall close to being finished we are now starting to develop the on-site office space that will accommodate our 24/7 support staff, continuing the ‘always available UK-based support’, for quick responses, always answered phone calls, and remote hands requests – any time of the day!
