Data Centre Thermal Imaging
As part of our preventative maintenance schedule, we have recently undertaken a thermal imaging scan of our data centre to identify any issues. Thermal imaging is used to inspect electrical cabling and panels to identify any areas that are producing excess heat, which could indicate a potential problem.
Our electrical contractors came to our data centre where they looked at all our electrical systems, taking multiple thermal images across our entire infrastructure.
Thermal imaging is non-invasive due to being “hands-off”. The thermal camera is directed at an area for inspection by an operator, the image returned highlights the warmest and coldest parts of the image. The operator will then be able to use this information to identify potential issues that would warrant more invasive investigation. This type of scan removes a lot of risk, and directs maintenance activity to areas that have been highlighted even allowing the identification of what maintenance activity is required before any further work is taken.
The outcome of our thermal imaging survey was positive, with no issues identified within our electrical systems which required further maintenance or investigation.
